Boys and Girls

Finally having the fortune of being a mother to children of both genders, I'm looking forward to Chyler growing up so I can actually communicate with her. I've heard - from other mothers of girls - that is is so nice to have actual conversations with their daughters. By this I mean - when I ask Dallen, "how was your day?" - the normal answer is "good", "okay", "junk", etc. Basically, one word answers. I've heard that girls will elaborate about their day and explain, in detail, what happened when and to whom. You can actually "relive" it with them. I'm looking forward to that. The only thing my 2 older sons will elaborate on is - what happened on this episode of Spongebob, or Sonic does this and that, or I want this or that train...

:::sigh:::

A funny thing happened this morning continuing on with the theme of the difference between girls and boys. I was changing the morning diapers and Austen came over to Chyler like he normally does - gave her a kiss on the head and started talking to her in his high pitched voice. Being that he is in the toilet training mode - he saw me taking off her diaper and he asked, "Chyler made doo-doo?" I say, "no". He asked, "Chyler made shi-shi?" I say, "yes". I proceed with the deed and he looks at her and looks at me and asks, "Where's Chyler's penis?" I told him that Chyler is a girl and she has something different than you because you are a boy. He looked at me skeptically. Lad added, "Chyler has a BJ"...and Austen looked at him quizically, "A BJ?? Chyler has a BJ??" I have no idea what a BJ is or who taught Lad the birds and the bees - maybe he needs "the talk" again. Anyway, Austen continues to look from Chyler to me to Lad and I can tell that he's convinced that there is something majorly wrong with her because of her missing part.

There are times that I wish Kela would tone down her questions and explanations...they just get so long! I'm probably a terrible mother for not "listening" to her all the time, but seriously! Anna seems to be on the same path, so there are times I envy your one word conversations. :)
And, I love Lad's explanation...too funny! I laughed out loud.
