Yet another beach day - a new record!

Our family doesn't utilize the beach too much. Not that the kids don't love it, they do (Mommy not as much)...but, it's mainly because our weekends are so hectic, we don't usually have free Saturdays.

Lad's been coaching a Little League PeeWee team, again the Pirates, this season. Unfortunately, we didn't have any kids eligible to play on the team. But, they practiced with the team and Brennen got to be the bat boy. The season ended and they opted to have an end of season potluck and beach outing. That was today. We hit Waimanalo Beach again - it's our family's favorite beach. Again, a nice day! No crabs this time though...

Lad took each of the kids out to boogie board. Austen is getting to LOVE it! Brennen and Chyler caught one wave each and clammered back to the beach like they just survived a shipwreck - it was kind of funny...to me, not them. I think they'll eventually learn to love it like their brothers do. Dallen boogie boarded ALL day long. It's his favorite thing to do.

We missed about 5 Pirates who had gone off on family vacations but CONGRATULATIONS to the boys and girls on a great season of baseball fun!

I knew I had them for a reason!

A bunch of towels + a bunch of kids = less work for me!
Yay! I knew that they would come in handy one day! Notice how adept Dallen has become at towel folding - he's the most experienced!

Then & Now

I was looking at some old pictures - while trying to clean up my computer files - and saw some baby baby pictures of the kids. It's been on my mind lately because for some UNKNOWN and NO WAY, NO HOW reason, the talk about "wouldn't it be nice to have another baby?" has been coming up. Mostly by Dallen - who says having another sister would be great. Umm...you get severely irritated by the one you already have...not to mention your brothers too!! And you want more of them??? I cannot have anymore - physically (well, 1 in 1000 chance but I don't think I'm that special!) and more importantly, emotionally & psychologically! Does anyone HEAR me on a daily basis - the volume itself is enough to dissuade further procreation. I'm digressing...severely. So okay then, back to the gooshy, squishy, feel-good part of my post. Travel with me, down memory lane back to when they were newborns.

Dallen was a pretty easy, good natured baby. He slept through the night from about 2-1/2 months. He ate whatever. He would work himself up into a cry - so as to give you adequate warning so you can attend to his needs without him ever reaching a full scale wail. He didn't crawl for a long time. Probably around 10 months but then he quickly advanced to walking a week shy of his 1st birthday. My earliest walker. Maybe we're not over-achievers? Oh, and Dallen had the WORSE hair ever for a baby. His hair grew in sticking up - Lad used to gel it down. I'm not sure why...but he started losing hair on the top of his head so he was bald on the top but the rest of his hair kept growing longer. It was very unstylish. Hee hee! (Laughing remembering that...)

Austen was a skinny, yellow baby who I thought resembled a monkey. Curious George reminds me of Austen. For the great sleeper Dallen was, Austen was exactly opposite. He was a restless sleeper and Lad would have to get up and carry him around every night. *wink* What?! I need my beauty sleep! When he was born, I really thought something was wrong because he was so skinny that his tailbone was sticking out! But everything was fine and to my relief, he chubbed up quite quickly. The thing everyone noticed right off about Austen were his big eyes! He was quite observant with those huge eyes. He was bald for a long time. And his hair has always been fine and straight. When he got mad, he rubbed his feet together - he still does this. He loved to hang out with Dallen and would always look at him with admiration. He still does this too.

Brennen was a supreme opihi. He really loved me. And only me. He cried if Daddy carried him, he cried if I put him down...exhausting!! I remember that I once left him with Grandma & Grandpa - they called me to come back because he would not stop crying. Needless to say, I had to take him everywhere. Plus, he nursed the longest - I think we went 15 months! Man! He was also a really BIG baby. He was heavy! And he wouldn't smile at anyone. He would shoot people such a look of mistrust! He had a very furrowed brow when he would concentrate on things. He still has does that...ALL the time! It's cute though. So happy that he smiles a lot more now. Did I mention he has 2 distinct giri-giri's?? He's a cuddler and I love that!

Chyler was very much like Dallen. Very easy - either that or I was seasoned by the time she arrived. Not sure which. From the get-go, I believe she was very independent. She had a very fearless quality - from engaging with people to asserting herself with her brothers - she knew what she wanted or didn't want. She screeched her displeasure - she still does that...just a bit louder now. She self-weaned at 10 months and started walking about a week or two after she turned 1-year-old. She also spoke very clearly, very early on - the boys made grunting sounds for a long time. But I think girls naturally have to put their 2 cents in. The first thing I noticed about her was that she had doll lips. Very pouty and full. She's grown into her lips but their plump quality remains. Lucky girl!

Well, there they are - at around less than 1 month old and now, in 2010. I think they have their own looks and may share a "likeness" but are not replicas of each other. They look different enough that I was once asked if they have the same father. Hmmm...what were they insinuating?? The nerve!
