Who turned SEVEN today???

AUSTEN! It's Austen's 7th birthday! Happy Birthday to my #2!

Earlier in the week, we were at a store and Austen perused the toy aisles and gave me a modest list of things that he wanted for his birthday. First and foremost, a scooter! So, the first thing in the morning...he opened his first present! A new Razor scooter that emits SPARKS when you brake! He loves it! The great thing about Razor's are that they are already assembled out of the box so we quickly snapped it together and he and Dallen went outside to ride. Austen was scared to try out his spark brake so he asked Dallen to try it out first which he gladly did...once Austen saw how it worked, he took over and never looked back! They raced all morning and had a blast!

Since it is Saturday, Austen had a baseball game and dutifully played his hardest. He hit well again today and came in to score a run. While playing 2nd base, he outran the runner to get them out at second. Awesome! Austen played in the outfield, 2nd base, pitcher and catcher today - see him in his gear?

After the game...potluck! Austen shared some cupcakes with his team and they sang "Happy Birthday" to him. Brennen came running when he heard cupcakes and as you can see, Chyler enjoyed them immensely!

Later on...more presents! Overloaded with presents from Grandma & Grandpa! The other items on his list...a Thor hammer and a water gun...both of which he got from his grandparents! Thanks!! And then...cake, cake, cake! A ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins! It was yummy!! You'll just have to trust me on that one since it is all gone!

Seeing him today made me start to think about Austen over the past 7 years. Austen was only 6 pounds when he was born - he had a yellowish hue to him for about a month. We always thought he resembled a monkey - albeit a cute one - which was good because he was born in the Year of the Monkey! Monkeys can be described as "...charming...in spite of the occasional silly and crazy antics, they are really nice people and make wonderful friends." This describes Austen perfectly especially now, as he is getting older, he is calmer and remains a very thoughtful and compassionate person. While he is on the quieter side for the most part, he can certainly let loose at home. He and his brothers are best of friends, always having so much fun together! He is our most hard-working and is pretty meticulous when it comes to doing things. Perfect example is his extremely neat handwriting.

I reminisced though my old picture files to see Austen every year - he has grown up so fast! When he was a baby - a very fussy baby who didn't sleep very well at night - I thought the exhaustion would never end! And when the toddler tantrums would last for hours...I thought I'd go crazy!! Now that he is 7 years old, I've realized that Austen has grown up and is maturing daily. He is our most helpful child. I love how his face looks right before he asks a question. You can never rush Austen...he takes his time doing everything, a super deliberate person...being rushed just throws him off! He is my best hugger! I love his hugs because he just melts into you! I love it! And we love you Austen! You're such a GREAT kid!

May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii!

This year, all the kids had a May Day program for their schools. This was the first at Alvah Scott since Dallen started there in 1st grade!

We've been having some really bad rain lately and Alvah Scott's May Day, May 6th, was not spared from the inclement weather. Although, for the majority of the show, it held up. The program was called "Lucky We Live Hawaii" and each grade level did a song and dance.

The first graders did the song, "One Paddle" and Austen was spectacular! He was right in the front and with a lot of concentration, he performed wonderfully! Great job Austen!!

The fourth graders performed to the "Moloka'i Slide" and during their performance, it POURED!! They got drenched in a deluge of water but like the super troopers they were, they continued their song and dance. Way to go, Dallen!

After all that, much to their chagrin, they still had a regular school day. Yay! Guys, although some of your classmates got to go home - Mommy is a big believer of LEARNING!! So, hope you learned some new stuff after your program! You both did a fantastic job!!

Fast foward to today, May 10th, for the annual Alphabetland May Day program held at the Pearl City Community Center's auditorium. I'm not sure how they do it, but those little kids have a lot more guts than I'll ever have as they get up on a stage and perform their hearts out - with spotlights shining in their eyes and an auditorium packed full of people staring up at them. Intimidating, yes. But, they do such a wonderful job!!

Chyler's 2 year old class performed, "All Around Maui" and she did an awesome job!! She swiveled her hips and did her motions all while singing her song. She looked like she was totally enjoying the spotlight! I'm not sure what happened to her lei during the time I took her pre-performance picture - here she is with her teacher, Miss Jamie - and then at performance time. It must be a new style! So proud of my baby!!

Brennen's 4 year old class performed, "Under the Sun" and my shy boy stood there doing the small version of the motions with a semi-smile on his face! Still super cute Brennen!

Afterwards, we took a photo of the preschool stars with their LOOT and as an added bonus for being preschoolers, they didn't have to go back to school and we had a special celebratory lunch at Chuck E. Cheese!

Whatever you do...

...don't delete ANY email account ever associated with your Blogger blog! YIKES! I did and the pictures in all my posts disappeared. I changed my administrative email account back in December - everything was A-OK. I thought, since I'm not using the old one, I'll just delete it - then, everything went poof!

The email account is not recoverable and thus, all my photos from my posts aren't either. I'm totally sick and am resigned to start recreating all my picture files. 2 years worth. Ugh!

So, since I'm in picture mode...I thought I'd post my current favorite picture of the world's greatest cat.
