A week without kids

Every year, Lad goes to Las Vegas for the IWCE Convention which is where new 2-way radio type products are shown to dealers. This year, he decided that he would take me so I can learn more about the business. To add to that, he also needed to go to Ellensburg, Washington for the NCAA D2 Western Regionals to broadcast the games for BYU-Hawaii. So, he asked my parents to watch the kids and we were off for a kid-free adventure.

In Las Vegas, we stayed at the Paris Hotel on the Strip. It was a nice hotel with modest sized rooms with really comfortable beds! The hotel had a pastry shop which had THE best vanilla cream filled doughnuts. Yummy!! I only had 1 but I could have had more!

We ate breakfast one morning in their cafe. I ordered their corned beef hash - which is my favorite breakfast - but it was horrible. Yuck! What a bummer!

While we were walking in the hotel, I noticed a really beautiful stained glass dome and a peculiar sculpture of this guy sweeping rubbish. I'm not sure what it is about but it was called "The Aftermath" and it was right in the middle of the walkway.

We walked a bit on the Las Vegas Strip and they have a brand-new hotel that came up called "The Cosmopolitan". Inside there were drapes of stringed-crystals all over the lobby. It was really beautiful!

We stayed a few days and then onto Ellensburg Washington. We rode Virgin America for the first time. It was a really comfortable airplane with an activity console on each seat in front of you. The seats were nice and roomy. We enjoyed our flight to San Francisco, then onto Seattle.

We arrived in Seattle at about 10:00pm on Thursday night. On the way out to Ellensburg, we passed the Seattle Temple and had to go over the Snoqualmie Pass and through a bit of snow.

By the last day, it was starting to get pretty nice! Only snow on the mountains. And my parents ended up having to watch the kids for a full week instead of the original plan of 4-5 days because the Seasiders kept winning and after 3 years of ALMOST winning, finally won the Western Regional Basketball Championship! Congratulations to Coach Wagner and his team! They will head to Springfield Massachusetts next week to compete for the National Championship with Lad in tow.

Lad and I didn't get to do much sight-seeing. We walked around a bit on the Strip in Las Vegas, got a foot massage at Happy Feet in Circus Circus after walking rows and rows at the IWCE trade show, ate uninterrupted dinners which was nice and we drove to Yakima and shopped at Kohl's for the first time. I got to experience cold weather for the first time in a long time - Lad said it wasn't THAT cold - but 35 degrees was cold enough for me! It was a nice time away from my regular life but I missed my kids. Maybe not the whining, crying or Pull-up duty...but definitely my kids! It is great to be home!
