Updates

Dallen's class just finished a story in their reader about a bakery in Northern California - the story was called Jalapeno Bagels. So, in the story the Mom is Mexican and the Dad is Jewish and their little boy needed to bring something to share with his class that represented his family. Anyway, at the end of this story there were 2 recipes and Dallen was telling me about the recipe for Chango Bars ALL week long. So, we got the ingredients he needed and he made them over the weekend. They were almost like Blondie Brownies - it was good and he made it all by himself. He was able to take some to school to share with his class. He said they all liked it a lot.

On the baseball front, Dallen is showing some prowess! Over the last 2 games, he caught several line drives - even turned one for a double play and has hit 2 doubles. Previously unheard of! I think that it's slowly getting into his head that he just may be good at baseball.

"Our" chicken has laid some eggs. The boys found the nest a couple of days ago. She's been sitting on her eggs for most of the day and comes out to eat less often than before. There are 5 eggs, they are on the smaller side. Not sure if they are fertilized so we'll see how it goes. She picked a really good spot. I thought she nested in someone else's yard or WAY down at the bottom of our property but she picked a place right next to our stone wall. It's nestled quite nicely. Seems cozy. The boys are so curious and they are always going over there to gawk and they always get SO close to her. Luckily she hasn't attacked them...yet. But, I keep on telling them that if you make her too nervous then she will! They don't get it - so live and learn, I guess?!

Lad has been telling me that he has really been enjoying Twitter. I'm impressed. I don't even know the ins and outs of Twitter, but he set up his own account ... all by himself! Wow! Wonders never cease! Usually, for anything Internet he'll ask me to set up his account and just give him the user and password. Anyway, he's been following mostly news and sports writers. I was surprised that he made a few posts of his own so you know, I HAD to sign up to see what he's writing. I have to admit that I don't exactly know WHY people Twitter - it's like a short blog/journal entry, 140 words or less - to let people know what you're doing. I enjoy blogging but I'm not sure I understand Twitter. Why I need to know that someone just went through a drive thru or someone else is off to a meeting is beyond me - but I'll give it a try.

Lastly, our family was supposed to go to Cancun Mexico this summer. We bought our airline tickets and also booked our timeshare. But, with all this Swine Flu stuff - we decided to forgo Mexico and go somewhere else. Luckily, the airline is waiving the change fee so we can change our tickets and go elsewhere. And we can re-bank our timeshare week for somewhere else. So, in order to not lose our ticket - we need to figure out where to go instead of Mexico. We were thinking of Salt Lake City, Phoenix, go see the Grand Canyon, or Lad is thinking of going to the Mall of America in Minnesota. I have 4 kids and don't want to be on a plane too long nor do I want to road trip - SO, with that...any suggestions?

Look at you! Letting go in the kitchen! I have yet to let my girls cook in the kitchen since the noodles...although they ask me on an almost daily basis...
Hmmm...can you eat eggs that aren't fertilized? Is it bad? I guess you probably don't want to steal the poor hen's eggs, though...hope you get some cute chickies!

Traveling with kid does not equal vacation most of the time. You'll definitely need time away on your own when you return. I would think of a place that had water slides close by so you don't really need to travel while there. The closest would be Hilton Waikaloa in Kona. Good luck with that one!
